One of the most common reasons for painful bras, is too large a band size combined with too small cups. If you are slim, your cup size may be larger than you expect, as a 30J cup size is much smaller than, say, a 40J cup size. If you are unsure, get a friend to examine the fit of your current bras. If the band is too big, it will tend to ride up at the back, and the shoulder straps will dig in.
